Wastewater Equalization Tanks

Equalization tanks play an important role in wastewater management for the control of wastewater within the process. Wastewater treatment plants are designed to operate at certain flow rates, whether as a continuous flow or batch flow system. Inconsistencies of flow, batch dumps and unwanted discharges can create problems requiring increased chemicals to correct the flow and unwanted discharges.  Using an equalisation tank to absorb flows which manufacturers and food processer are forced to deal with batch processes and varying constituents’ rates in the wastewater treatment process.

In a wastewater management process, the primary equalisation tanks are where the effluent with contaminants is stored prior to the wastewater treatment facility.  Often a slow speed mixer is fitted to keep any suspended solids within the tank in suspension.

Conical Equalization Tanks

Conical Equalization tanks with shallow cone are often liquid with heavy solids or where budget allows. The cone allows these heavy solids to fall to the cone and be drained. In these circumstances, decant valves are fitted to take water off water to the treatment tank.

Equalisation Tanks Reduce Chemical Usage

Equalization tanks can help reduce the volume of chemicals used and maintaining ph in which the plant operates. By evening the flow and temperature from batch dumping, the maintained ph. levels in the wastewater treatment system allowed for a more constant and effective treatment system and reduced downstream equipment maintenance.
